My work stems from a love of the human form: from a direct observation from nature; from the landscape of the human body.

Executed in formal sittings in the studio over several weeks, my drawings and paintings are done entirely on natural vision, not seen through a lens , not dependent on the camera.

They grow out of a primary drawing trying to understand the anatomy of the individual, the muscle tone and balance. Cropping the drawing and transferring it to canvas brings a voyeuristic tone to the work, up close and personal. Using a limited palette of oils, the colours and tones of the flesh and the intricacies of the form, acquire a life of their own.

Thus, creating an image, fashioned in paint, born from sustained observation and a strong sense of physical proximity - leaving the viewer a private and intimate gaze of the model.
